The staff of Amrita Performing Arts and the dancers of Khmeropédies III had the great honor to be granted an audience with His Majesty King Sihamoni on Tuesday September 6, 2011. The delegation was led by Country Director Mr. Suon Bun Rith, and accompanied by Her Royal Highness Sylvia Sisowath. Mr. Bun Rith reported to the King on Amrita’s mission and current activities while His Majesty King Sihamoni offered his full endorsement to Amrita’s works and all best wishes, on behalf of Their Majesties the King Father and King Mother, to the Board of Trustees, Executive Director, staff and artists of Amrita Performing Arts.
His Majesty’s interest in Amrita’s works and subsequent grantingof the audience came after Amrita’s public showing of Khmeropedies III: Source/Primate, created by Cambodian-French choreographer Emmanuèle Phuon and funded by Un Monde Par Tous and La Fondation La Ferthé. Mr. Fred Frumberg, Founder and Executive Director of Amrita Performing Arts, has had the great privilege of meeting with His Majesty the King on three previous occasions. Since its inception, Amrita has received two letters from His Majesty King Sihamoni; one to endorse Amrita in its cultural endeavor and another to thank Amrita for presenting to him a copy of the newly published book Beyond the Apsara: Celebrating Dance in Cambodia.
This audience and acknowledgement by King Sihamoni of Amrita’s efforts to nurture the creation of contemporary dance in Cambodia, is of great significance and all of us at Amrita Performing Arts are extremely grateful to His Majesty the King for his support and endorsement.
