What a pleasure to be back in Phnom Penh and in a rehearsal space with the Amrita dancers!
We are preparing for our Singapore appearance next week and the last time we saw each other was in New York in April. Since then lots has happened, they have all been busy with other projects, and yet coming back to it is a piece of cake. The piece is in great shape, Sopheap is a far better rehearsal director than I could be 😉
We are putting Leak into the cast, and because everyone looks so great, I may have some time to tailor a few things for him. We have a few days to do this; he will have to watch some videos and pick attitudes and movements that could nourish his monkey character, and we will see if we can add a short solo for him in what we call the Play section.
All this in a very relaxed atmosphere, and the usual laughing and teasing that goes on all day. As I said, what a pleasure it is to be back with them!
Choreographer Emmanuèle Phuon created Khmeropédies III: Source/Primate on our dancers in 2012. It was performed in Phnom Penh and at the Guggenheim Museum as part of Season of Cambodia, New York in April 2013. It is being re-rehearsed this week before it is presented in Singapore at the da:ns festival at Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay on 15 and 16 October.
