It has been a very good opportunity for Amrita Performing Arts to work with a choreographer from Malaysia, Mr. Lim How Ngean. He has been actively involved in the performing arts for more than 20 years. He has been a performer in various productions in Singapore and Malaysia acting for Ong Keng Sen and the late Krishen Jit. He has contributed to arts journalism in Malaysia by writing reviews and features on dance and theatre. He was awarded the British Council Chevening Scholarship in 2006 to study his MA in Royal Holloway London. In 2009, he was invited by the Asia Europe Foundation (ASEF) to be a dramaturge/documentarian for the dance exchange Pointe to Point. How Ngean has also dramaturged dance performances for the Singapore Arts Festival and the Singapore Esplanade Arts Centre. He has dramaturged for critically acclaimed choreographers Daniel Kok, Joavien Ng, Kuik Swee Boon and Ming Poon in Singapore, and Pichet Klunchun in Thailand. He also dramaturgs for Phonm Penh-based Amrita Performing Arts Group. How Ngean has just passed his PhD at the Theatre Studies department in National University of Singapore, with the title of his thesis being Choreographic Modernities: Movement, Mobility and Contemporary Dance from Southeast Asia. He is currently based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
